Many users of these
products are comfortable in diagnosing and solving common problems on
their own. We have included some helpful hints to make this easier.
If after following these instructions you are unable to solve the problems,
please fill out the Request Support form on the web or telephone technical
support.
Does
the product work on Windows 98, Me (Millennium), or Windows 2000?
Microsoft has made every effort to make all its new Windows operating
systems backward compatible. This means any software application that
worked on Windows 95 should work on Windows 98, Me etc. All our products
have been tested and work on these new Windows operating systems. So,
even though the Requirements on the package may not include Windows
98, Me, or 2000, all our products work on these new Windows systems.
The ONLY exception is our oldest three products: Whistler Skiing, Snowboard
the World, and Wildlife of Western Canada, do not work on Windows 2000.
If you have upgraded to Windows 2000 and have one of these products,
you can return the product and we will get you a version that will work
on Windows 2000.
Are there any known incompatibilities?
After Dark has a built-in incompatibility with most other screen savers;
since After Dark is a DOS resident program, it will try to engage even
while a Windows screen saver is running. The best fix is simply to disable
After Dark while you have our screen saver enabled.
The screen saver seems to foul up long printouts
or other batch jobs on my computer.
If you observe this problem, disable the screen saver before beginning
the batch job or long printout. Some older software applications and/or
hardware platforms have conflicts with screen saver applications. It
is recommended that you disable all screen savers while you defragment
disks.
The screen saver seems to take a long time
to recover when I move the mouse to try to begin using my computer again.
What is happening?
The software is memory-intensive. In order to properly return control
to the system, that memory must be reallocated. On some older machines
(Intel 486s and older), this can be a particularly slow process.
I get a message that says "Warning! Memory
Low!" scrolling across the screen. Why?
Verify that Windows is managing your swap space for you, and that the
hard disk drive is not full -- Windows 95 uses a dynamic swapfile configuration
based on the local hard disk.
The
colors in the images are mostly missing! Where are they?
Verify that your display settings are at least 256-color. The best results
will occur in True Color (24-bit) mode. If your display settings are
set for 8-bit (256 colors), you will not be able to view the images
correctly.
Screen Saver freezes every second day
This must be caused by something other than the screen saver, perhaps
video driver that is out of date or has a bug. Make sure you are using
the latest video drivers. You can usually find updates at the manufacturer's
web site. Also, if you continue to have this problem, switch to a different
video driver (such as one of the standard ones created by Microsoft)
to see if the problem goes away.
Can I add images from one screen saver to
another and run as one screen saver?
IMPULSE created two screen savers "Western Canada" and "Gardens
of the Pacific Northwest" with a software engine that enables image
collections and has the "add your own image feature". Our
other screen savers don't have these features. You cannot extract images
from any screen saver, but you can easily switch screen savers from
time to time, using Windows. Just click Start > Settings > Control
Panel > then double click on the Display icon and select the Screen
Saver Tab. Select the screen saver you want in the drop down list and
click the OK button.
Is it possible to use your images on my
site for free? I will give you credit.
No, the images are copyright the artists, and cannot be used for any
other purpose than in the screen saver
Can I copy my Friend's Screen Saver on My
Computer?
Your Friend has a license to use the Screen Saver Software on one computer.
He cannot use it on his computer and let you use it on yours at the
same time. You must purchase another copy. You may purchase a copy from
one of the retail outlets we sell screen savers at, or purchase one
from our web site at www.impulsegifts.com.
Year 2000
All of our Screen Savers were built with software that has no date processing
capabilities, or has been built and tested to be year 2000 compatible.
If run on a Y2K compliant bios and operating system, our screen savers
will run in the same manner after January 1, 2000 as before January
1, 2000.
